Over The Hill Gang Softball Report

Congratulations to Zwanger Pesiri Radiology (ZP) shortstop Russ Graham. He is the Over the Hill Gang “Player of the Week.” Graham’s fantastic defense and timely hitting were the driving force behind a big ZP win. Graham made several over-the-shoulder grabs; one saved two runs in a very tight game. He also turned a number of double plays with second baseman Sean O’Flynn. At the plate, he had three hits including a clutch two-out RBI single and a long double.

ZP beat Changing Times Pub 9-4. Pitcher Brian Tinney was superb, holding CT to only four runs after the hot hitting team scored 58 runs in its first three games. Tinney had plenty of defensive help, especially from middle infielders Graham and rookie O’Flynn. The pair combined for three double plays to end potential CT rallies. The outfield was also solid. Vinny Foppiano, Bino Reverberi and Tom Dittmeier roamed far and wide to track down CT drives.

ZP is struggling offensively but scored enough to win. Marc Fischer had three hits and a pair of RBIs playing on one leg. Graham also had three hits and a RBI to go along with his standout defensive play. Tyrone Clark, Anthony Nicolich and Pete Mendelson all had two hits each to round out the ZP attack.

Autocraft earned a much-needed win over LaCorte Family Auto Friday night by a score of 21 to 11. Autocraft’s bats warmed up as did the weather to bounce back from two consecutive defeats at the hands of BK Sweeney’s and Barco to improve their record (2-2). Newcomer Victor Steele pitched well, walking no one and keeping the LaCorte big bats under control for most of the evening. Brian Landy and Chris Picccininni provided the punch for Autocraft, each hitting three-run home runs. Denny Oehl, Chris Pic, John Garrity and newcomer Rich Marbit supplied consistent hitting, all getting three hits on the night.

It must be noted that the big hit came from veteran Bob Cruickshank who came through with a big two-out, two-RBI hit which helped seal Autocraft’s victory. John Garrity, Tom Vanasco and Rich Marbit contributed solid defensive play.

Lockie & Nowachek Family Chiropractors defeated Bar-Boy, 15-14. Jim Doyle was four-for-four with key RBIs. Butch Flecker and Rich Apollo each had three hits. Rookie Pete Hajko had the big hit, a two-run homerun way over the fence. Ben Greco pitched the whole game, shutting down Bar-Boy as they started to close the gap.
