Saint Dominic Girls CYO Soccer Breast Cancer Awareness Event

The Saint Dominic C.Y.O. Soccer program hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the beautiful playing fields on Sunday, Sept. 30. This event, the first of its kind for the C.Y.O., was a rousing success, with over $600 raised while garnering a  tremendous response from both the local community and from the visiting opponents  from Holy Spirit parish and Sacred Heart parish.

With the families of the Lady Bayhawk soccer players supplying delicious baked goods, crafts made by the players, and pink ribbon sweatbands and armbands, the occasion was a chance for not only the Saint Dominic C.Y.O. family to recognize those in our area affected by breast cancer, but to celebrate those survivors and their loved ones who have shown such bravery and resiliency.

In game action, the first game saw the seventh-grade team matched against the defending champions, Sacred Heart Parish. While playing against an older and more seasoned team, (and fighting through a blinding rainstorm) the seventh-grade team showed determination and talent but came up on the short end at the end of the game.

In the second game of the day, the 2011 N.S.C.Y.O. undefeated Champions, our very own Saint Dominic sixth-grade Lady Bayhawks, took on a feisty team from Holy Spirit. Displaying the talent and team play that have led them to an unblemished 2012 record, the girls slogged through a 5-1 victory and remained the team to beat in league play. With offense, defense and superb goaltending all clicking at once, this sixth grade team is a formidable challenge for any opponent!

Thanks to our fantastic parents, coaches and players for a wonderful day of compassion and togetherness. The C.Y.O. soccer players know that life  is bigger than the games they participate in and that we should all celebrate and acknowledge those affected by devastating disease like breast cancer.
