Menorah Lighting

 The annual Oyster Bay Menorah Lighting is at 5:30 p.m. at the Derby-Hall bandstand in Townsend Park, opposite the post office. Sweet singing and refreshments courtesy of the Oyster Bay Jewish Center and the Oyster Bay Civic Association, respectively.

Thursday, December 6

Tom Robinson Tournament

The annual Tom Robinson basketball tournament is hosted by the Oyster Bay High School this year. Held on Dec. 6 and 7, with two rounds of competition at 5 and 7 p.m. Held in the OBHS gym. The Baymen play tonight. 

Vernon Concert

The Vernon Grades 5 and 6 Winter Concert is held at 7:30 p.m., in the OBHS Auditorium.

Roosevelt Concert

The Roosevelt Grades K-1-2 Winter Concert takes place on Thursday, December 6 and on Friday, December 7, at 9:30 a.m., in the T.R. School Gymnasium.

Doo-Wop Fundraiser

An Evening With the Stars: Doo-Wop Fundraiser to help support the games for the physically challenged will be held on Friday, Dec. 7 at 8 p.m. at Bethpage High School. Tickets are $25 each, reserved seating only. Free parking. Go to larentr.com or call 631-873-8817 for more information.

Tom Robinson Tournament

The annual Tom Robinson basketball tournament is hosted by the Oyster Bay High School this year. On Dec. 7, two rounds of competition at 5 and 7 p.m. will determine the winner. Held in the OBHS gym.

Saturday, December 8

OBHS Concert and Exhibit

The Oyster Bay Historical Society is hosting their annual concert and open house from 4 to 7 p.m. The one-hour concert at the Hood A.M.E. Zion Church on South Street and Summit Street is a gospel event at 4 p.m., not to be missed. Think toe-tapping and hand-clapping. Then walk down to 20 Summit Street to the Earle-Wightman House for a free reception from 5 to 7 p.m.. They are also debuting their new exhibit of miniatures and childhoods small things that gives a glimpse into the family life of the Roosevelt clan.

OB Tree Lighting

The OB-EN Chamber is holding their tree lighting on Dec. 8, at 4:15 p.m. at the Derby-Hall Bandstand in Townsend Park. Come see Santa arrive. Refreshments by the Oyster Bay Civic Association.

Holiday Express

The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum is holding their annual Holiday Express at 102 Audrey Avenue on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 8 and 9. Santa will be there from 1 to 3 p.m. so bring a camera for a photo op. There are raffles, exhibits and gifts for sale. Free horse and wagon rides, first come, first served, around town both days. 

Christmas with the Roosevelts 

Visit Sagamore Hill National Historic Site from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for Christmas with the Roosevelts at Sagamore Hill. Activities include holiday music by Musica Dolce, Christmas carols sung by Close Enough, and James Foote as TR, talks about how the Roosevelts celebrated Christmas there and in the White House. Arts and crafts activities for all. Free refreshments. Visitor Center bookstore offers 15 percent off this weekend. Call 922-4788.

 Bayville Holiday Exhibit

 The 2012 Holiday Exhibit at the Bayville Historical Museum at 34 School Street, the village complex. It takes place on Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sunday Dec. 9, from 1 to 3;30 p.m. The winter exhibit will showcase their vast collection of vintage toys. Call 628-1439, ext. 18.

Holiday Express

The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum Holiday Express continues at 102 Audrey Avenue on Sunday, Dec. 9. Free horse and wagon rides around town again.

Holiday Ornament Workshop

Raynham Hall Museum, 20 West Main Street, presents a Holiday Ornament Workshop on Dec. 9 at 1 p.m., designed for ages 6 to 12. The children will decorate a pinecone ornament, make a wreath ornament and a button ornament. Cider and holiday cookies will be served. $10 per child. Call 922-6808 for reservations.

LI Baroque Ensemble

Immigration Reform

Enrique Morones, founder and executive director of the San Diego nonprofit Border Angels will speak on Monday, Dec. 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock at 48 Shelter Rock Rd. in Manhasset. Movie: Men In Black 3

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library presents Men In Black 3 at 2 and 6:30 p.m. Agent J must travel back in time to MIB’s early years in the 1960s and save his partner, Agent K, from being assassinated by an alien. Starring: Will Smith, Josh Brolin, Emma Thompson, and Tommy Lee Jones. (Rated PG-13 for sci-fi action violence, and brief suggestive content material, 106 minutes).

Movie: Love Actually

The Locust Valley Library, 170 Buckram Road, presents their Thursday afternoon movie, Love Actually at 1:30 p.m. The movie is rated R and runs for two and a quarter hours. Refreshments by the Friends of the Locust Valley Library. For information call 671-1837.

Fall Nature Walk

Nature walk at the Hoffman Center Nature Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary located at 6000 Northern Blvd., in Muttontown. Meet the guide at the site entrance at 12:50 p.m. Gate is locked when tour begins. No pets, no children under 10 years of age, or organized groups permitted. No registration required. Owl Prowl at OWG

The TR Sanctuary & Audubon Center presents an owl prowl at Old Westbury Gardens on Dec. 15 in two sessions, from 6 to 7 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Come for a night hike to hear the calls of native owls. The TR Sanctuary & Audubon Center presents Listen to the reading of Night Tree by Eve Bunting while you decorate the sanctuary trees with wildlife-friendly homemade edible ornaments from 1 to 2:30 p.m. For all ages. The general fee is $7, call 922-3200 for information.

Holiday Twilight Tours

The Vanderbilt Museum, at 180 Little Neck Road, Centerport, has been decorated for the holidays by interior designers and garden clubs and offers its very popular twilight mansion tours the evenings of Wednesday-Friday, Dec. 26-28, 7 to 9 p.m. Admission: $10 for adults, $9 for students and seniors (62 and older), and $5 for children 12 and under. U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Needs Oyster Bay Recruits

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla in the Oyster Bay area is recruiting new members. They are needed to assist the Coast Guard in performing Homeland Security missions and to implement the Coast Guard’s many recreational boating safety programs. No experience or boat is required. Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

The Fellowship provides an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie, with talks presented by intelligent enlightening and non-dogmatic speakers who come from the entire spectrum of the arts, history and sciences. This is followed by coffee and an informal discussion circle, held in the turn-of-the-18th century farmhouse in a bucolic setting. Sundays at 10:30 a.m. The Muttontown Unitarian Universalist Fellowship is located on the south side of Route 25A (Northern Blvd.), East Norwich, directly east of Martin Viette Nurseries and about a half mile west of Route 106.
