FOSH Lecture Series

The Friends of Sagamore Hill (FOSH) hosts the Dr. John A. Gable Lecture Series, held in Christ Church Parish Hall, 61 East Main Street on Thursday, March 21, with Roger L. Di Silvestro, naturalist and editor and author of Theodore Roosevelt in the Badlands: A Young Politician’s Quest for Recovery in the American West; on Thursday, April 18, Chip Bishop discusses his latest book The Lion and the Journalist, portraying the friendship of Theodore Roosevelt and his biographer Joseph Bucklin Bishop. The Thursday, May 16, lecture features photographer Xiomáro, draws on his experience photographing the interior of the Roosevelt home at Sagamore Hill, after removal of the house’s furnishings as part of the site’s rehabilitation project. Lectures begin at 7 p.m. Admission and refreshments are free to all. Donations to the Friends of Sagamore Hill are greatly appreciated. Easter Egg Extravaganza

Raynham Hall Museum will hold a special Easter Egg Decorating Extravaganza event on March 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. Children grades 3 to 5 are welcome to attend. The fee is $10 per child. Anita McDougall will teach the class about the folk art of Ukranian Easter Egg Coloring. Each child will receive two blown-out eggshells to decorate. Reservations are necessary as space is limited. OB-EN Budget Workshop

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich board of education holds its third budget workshop on April 2 at 8 p.m. in the Oyster Bay High School library. Meetings continue on April 16 and May 7. You can go to obenschools.org to download budget material. The budget vote and trustee election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31 at the high school from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Spring Splendor

The OB-EN Chamber of Commerce hosts Spring Splendor which takes place at Dodds & Eder, at 221 South Street, on April 8 at 7 p.m. The cost, $75 per person for the cocktail fundraiser with tastings prepared by local restaurants helps fund the hamlet beautification projects. Gallery Talk

Gallery Talk presented on April 14 by exhibition curator/photographer Xiomáro on his exhibit How I Love Sagamore Hill, pictures taken of Sagamore Hill uncovered. He photographed TR’s home at Sagamore Hill National Historic Park as it was being readied for restoration. Talk at the Koenig Center, 20 Summit Street, from 2 to 3 p.m. Free. OB-EN Budget Workshop

The Oyster Bay-East Norwich board of education will adopt the 2013-2014 Budget on April 16 at 8 p.m. in the Oyster Bay High School library. At the next meeting on May 7 there will be the public budget hearing. The budget vote and trustee election (two) is scheduled for Tuesday, May 21 at the high school from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Operation Cleanup

Help the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce keep Our Town beautiful by joining Operation Cleanup on April 21. Volunteers meet at the Bandstand at 8 a.m. A light breakfast will be served. Bring work gloves, dust pans and brooms. It is a great community service project for students. Call 922-6464 for information.

Opera Night

Founder Isabella Eredita Johnson will bring her group of gifted musicians to perform arias from some of the most beloved operas, as well as art songs of Schubert, Wolf, Liszt and Schumann on April 21, at 4 p.m. at Christ Church.. With its goal to foster the production and appreciation of opera and chamber music in the Long Island community. Suggested donation: $15. Call 922-6377. The concerts continue on June 16.

Hamlet Cleanup

The OB-EN Chamber of Commerce holds its annual sidewalk cleanup and fills the planters with flowers. Youth are invited to come and earn commu nity service hours. The day starts at 8 a.m. Call 9226464 for information.
