More than 125 supporters of Friends of the Bay gathered at the Meadow Brook Club on Friday, June 21, for the organization’s annual Launch the Season fundraising event.
The event honored Deborah and Michael Held of Oyster Bay Cove for their many years of service to the community and their commitment to the preservation of our local environment. Deborah Held, a talented artist, donated her painting Breezy Day to the event, which became the centerpiece of the live auction which highlighted the evening.
Carol Silva of News 12 served as the auctioneer and inspired spirited bidding for a variety of donated items. Silent auctions and raffles were offered as well, the proceeds of which support Friends of the Bay’s mission to “preserve, protect and restore the waters” of Oyster Bay and Cold Spring Harbor.
Board members expressed their gratitude to all who attended and supported the event, with particular thanks to the members of the event committee.
“This has been one of our most successful events ever,” said Friends of the Bay president Barry Lamb. “I want to thank our event co-chairs, Carolyn Core Kenavan and Rashmi Nelson, and their committee for their hard work in making this event happen, and thanks also to the many friends and supporters who have come out to support our mission.”
