On Saturday, Aug. 17, the Oyster Bay Rough Riders won the Boys U14 Kick-off Classic Soccer Tournament, held at the Soccer Park in Plainview. The boys went a perfect three wins and no losses in the tournament.
In the first game, the Oyster Bay Rough Riders defeated the Long Island Rough Riders 4-0. Goals were scored by Nick Zucconi, Charlie Ritter (two) and Manny DeFreitas. In the second game against HBC, the lone goal was scored by Harrison Treble as the boys won 1-0. In the third and final game, Justin Lanza scored with about 10 minutes remaining to give Oyster Bay a 3-2 victory over the Long Island Rough Rider’s Elite Team. Other goals scored in the game were by Spencer Weingord and Harrison Treble.
The boys’ defense was outstanding during the tournament. The defense was led by Goalie Zack Ubertini. The defenders were Michael Mullen, Edgar Cruz and Dennis Mejia. The mid-field was led by Drew Jacklin, Axel Garcia, Jairo Ruiz, Nick Chisari, Andrew Chen and Peter Buvona. The team was coached by Manny DeFreitas and Keith Cassar. The coaches said they are looking forward to a very competitive fall season.
