Rough Riders Take Second Place In Tournament

The Oyster Bay Rough Rider U14 Boys soccer team participated in the Whitewater Challenge Tournament in the Poconos, PA, over the Columbus Day weekend, playing against U15 opponents. The team finished in second place.

 

In the first game the Rough Riders defeated the FC Pocono team from E. Stroudsburg, PA, 2-0, with goals by Keith Cassar and Drew Jacklin.  Dennis Mejia was in goal and recorded the shutout.  

 

In the second game the Rough Riders defeated the Renegades from Media, PA, 2-1, with goals by right winger Manny DeFreitas and sweeper Michael Mullen with a shot from half field. 

 

 In the finals against the Red Lions from Gilbertsville, PA, the Rough Riders lost 2-0 to a premier U15 team.  The coaches, Manny DeFreitas and Keith Cassar, were extremely impressed by the level of soccer, sportsmanship and determination that the boys displayed.  The midfield and defense was led by Edgar Cruz, Nick Zucconi, Aaron Rudnet, Danny Innelli, Misael Yanez, Charley Ritter, Andrew Xu, Zach Ubertini and Spencer Weingord. The forwards were Peter Bivona, Justin Lanza and Ellis Collier.  

 

The following day the boys, coaches and parents enjoyed a tremendous day of whitewater rafting on the Lehigh River.  The coaches, players and parents would like to thank everyone involved in making this trip happen, including the OBEN Soccer Club.
