Ffoure Pounds Sterling
Ffoure Pounds Sterling, an exhibit at the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Koenig Center is open now through Jan. 19, 2014. A selection of documents, correspondence, maps, and manuscripts from the 17th through the 20th centuries, many of which have never been previously exhibited. View the 1653 First Purchase agreement with the Matinecocks, preserved in the Office of the Town Clerk in Oyster Bay, as well as the 1661 agreement granting Henry Townsend permission to build his mill at Mill Pond. Veterans Day Dinner Dance
The Robert H. Spittel American Legion Post 1285, Bayville, holds a Veterans Day Dinner Dance on Nov. 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. at 45 Bayville Avenue. The event is open to everyone. Space is limited and early reservations are suggested. Tickets are $50 per person. Includes soda and one alcoholic beverage. Free valet parking, buffet dinner, D.J., dancing, Chinese auction, raffles, 50/50, cash bar. The event is a benefit to sport the post.

Nelson DeMille Lecture
Raynham Hall Museum presents the first of its lecture series “Spymasters: The uses of Intelligence in a Dangerous World.” The series was inspired by the museum’s identity as the home of a central member of George Washington’s Culper Spy Ring, a forerunner of today’s C.I.A. first speaker is best-selling novelist Nelson DeMille. He will be speaking on Nov. 17, at the Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 each, or $50 for members. All three lectures cost $200 per person or $125 for members. The second lecture is by Brian Kilmeade on Sunday, Jan. 19. He is the author of George Washington’s Secret Six of which one is Robert Townsend, Culper, Jr. The third lecture in the series will be by Evan Thomas speaking on March 9. A “Local son” Thomas has authored eight books. His most recent is Ike’s Bluff: President Eisenhower’s Secret Battle to Save the World (2012). Space is limited, so please call 516-922-6808 to reserve.
Lyric Opera
The Friends of the Locust Valley Library host the Capitol Heights Lyric Opera company who will perform arias and duets from Rossini’s masterpieces The Barber of Seville and Carmen. Co-sponsored by the Town of Oyster Bay, on Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. Light refreshments and concert in the Community Room.

The LI Baroque Ensemble performs at Christ Church on Nov. 17 at 3 p.m. in a program of Totally Telemann. The LIBE offers rarely heard and unpublished works along with period favorites. Tickets are $20 General, $15 Seniors, $10 Students, and children admitted free with paying adult.

Menorah Lighting
Stan Spiegelman of the Oyster Bay Civic Association is chairing the annual Menorah Lighting at the Derby-Hall Bandstand on Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m. Stan said OB Town Councilwoman Michel Johnson will be there; Bagel Boss is providing the Hannukah sweets; and Oyster Bay Jewish Center Rabbi Marvin Demant will be officiating at the event. You can count of songs by the young people of the OBJC.
Music at the Mansion
Back by popular demand, the Brasil Guitar duo will perform at Coe Hall at 6 p.m. at Planting Fields as part of their new Music at the Mansion Concert Series. Tickets are $20 to non-members; free to members and there is no parking fee. Friends of the Bay invites you to A Night with Artist Steven Colucci on Friday evening, Nov. 22 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at BMW of Oyster Bay, 145 Pine Hollow Road. DBE Illustrated Lecture
Victoria Crosby visits the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Angela Koenig Center at 20 Summit Street on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. for a slide and lecture presentation on the history of the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE). Crosby, DBE regent, will read poems from her collection BritCentric. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
