The Port Washington Youth Activities’ (PYA) boys ages eight-and-under (8U) Legends fall travel baseball team recently captured first place in their division as they went undefeated (7-0) in the annual Merillon Fall Classic.

For those seven games the Legends scored 48 runs, and as a result of skilled pitching and fielding, the team allowed just nine runs. The Legends’ success this fall follows the team’s impressive 6-1-1 record over the summer.

“I am extremely proud of what this young team has accomplished,” Legends’ manager Michael Schissel said. “Not only did they play great baseball and improve with each game, but they also showed great sportsmanship in the finest tradition of PYA. It was a privilege to manage this team.”

The team plans to work out indoors this winter to prepare for a new season in the spring as they progress to the next age bracket.

PYA is a non-profit, 501(c) (3) charitable organization formed to promote the exemplary development of local youth through participation in sports.

PYA teaches teamwork and individual responsibility in an atmosphere of respect and sportsmanship, Schissel said. “While PYA places emphasis on the development of sports skills, its primary mission is to develop character and an understanding of how participation in sporting events can prepare one for success in all endeavors.”
