On Saturday, Nov. 16, Friends of Manhasset Crew and the Manhasset High School Crew team held its Second Annual Ergathon fundraiser at the Manhasset High School gymnasium.
Members of the Manhasset High School Crew team competed against each other and members of the Chaminade, St. Anthony’s and Sagamore rowing teams in a 20K ergathon.
Athletes competed in teams of eight, as they rowed on an ergameter machine. Squads from all four teams received medals at the event. FOMC thanks the Chaminade, St. Anthony’s and Sagamore teams for participating in the event and supporting Manhasset High Crew! In the spirit of the Thanksgiving Season, collections of canned and box food were taken to be given to local charities this season.
The Manhasset High School Crew Team and Friends of Manhasset Crew rely heavily on fundraising to improve and maintain its equipment during the two seasons (fall and winter) that the team competes in various regattas. A new 8+ boat costs about $40,000. Seasonal dues cover the cost of some of our coaches and miscellaneous fees like gasoline, insurance and maintenance of our launches.
This past fall, the athletes competed as far as Lowell, Massachusetts, Saratoga Springs, New York and Boston, Massachusetts. Rowing is a great sport with a group of athletes coming together as one to make something great happen. For more information regarding the Manhasset High School Crew team visti www.manhassetcrew.org.
