You can’t judge a book by its cover, or a romance novel by its author’s name and photo. The original comedy, By Any Other Name by Claudia Wilson will be presented on Thursday, Jan. 30 through Saturday, Feb. 1, and Friday, Feb. 7 at the United Methodist Church, 35 Verbena Ave. in Floral Park.
This charming comedy written by Wilson, who lives in Floral Park and is a longstanding member of Theatre Box, centers on Otto Putzhammer, a budding romance novelist whose stories are constantly rejected by publishing companies because of two strikes against him—his less than romantic sounding name and his less than attractive appearance.
But his luck is about to change thanks to his sister, Heidi, who submits one of his manuscripts to a publisher under a pseudonym and a photo of a model. The result is a series of hilarious situations for everyone involved.
The show cast includes: Rich Carroll as Otto Putzhammer, Melissa Virdone as Heidi, Kate Lenzo as Sally, Geralyn Greco as Martha, Nick Sieban as Rod, Tim Smith as KP Willson, and Kelly Schmidt as Gina.
Show times are Jan. 30, Jan. 31, Feb. 1, and Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. Proceeds will benefit the creation of a community storm center. For reservations and information send an email to: info@theatrebox.org or call 516-900-2031.
Additionally, Theatre Box is always looking for volunteers who can run lights or sound or backstage work for productions on show dates. All ages welcome. No experience necessary. Help with marketing and promotion is also appreciated. Volunteers should contact Bob Wilson at: bob.wilson@sandwire.com or call 516-515 1027.
