Elizabeth Kase of Port Washington has been named Pro Bono Attorney of the Month for January for her assistance of abused women.
Kase works with clients at the Safe Center LI—formerly the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence—who need the expertise of a lawyer who specializes in criminal law. Kase also serves Port Washington as the Village Justice of Baxter Estates.
“Because of her background and training, Kase truly understands both the legal and emotional issues presented when a victim of abuse is arrested,” said Nassau County Bar Association President Peter J. Mancuso. “Over the past years, Kase has successfully represented four clients in criminal court, and has inspired members of her law firm, Kase & Druker of Garden City, to volunteer as well.”
Her volunteer services are provided to women through the Safe Center LI’s Pro Bono Project, which generally seeks volunteer attorneys to represent victims of domestic abuse in family, matrimonial and immigration matters.
A graduate of Smith College and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, Kase, has dedicated her career to the practice of criminal law. As an Assistant District Attorney in New York County she successfully prosecuted hundreds of cases pertaining to sex crimes, domestic violence, narcotics, cyber-crime and white-collar felonies.
For the past 10 years she has been a partner at Kase & Druker practicing federal and state criminal defense.
A member of the Nassau County Bar Association, Kase serves on the Defendant’s Round Table Committee, and has served as a judge when teams of law students compete at NCBA’s annual Hon. Elaine Jackson Stack Moot Court Competition.
