Girls Win For Sportsmanship

Members of the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Soccer Club have been recognized for their good sportsmanship. As the Long Island Junior Soccer League began to grow and play at higher levels of competition, there was a movement within the league to remain focused on their mission to develop mature adults and responsible citizens through the lessons of teamwork and fair play. The goal was to “build character through soccer,” a sentiment stressed through the important role sportsmanship plays in the development of players.

Now, referees submit sportsmanship ratings after every game, and the LIJSL Sportsmanship Committee allots points. Winners are recognized with a sportsmanship award plaque and a patch that they are allowed to place on their uniform.  This is the only patch players may wear on their uniform other than their club patch.

The Wave has been selected as the winners of the Fall 2013 Sportsmanship Award for the U9 Girls Division. The players include: Abigail Askeland, Kaleigh Bosch, Jenna Cody, Riley Ford, Ryleigh Greene, Faith Lingen, Makenzie Macchia, Mariana Panariello, Lesley Pineda, Chiara Rutigliano, Kate Santi, page Sweeney and Brooke Vetter.
