The Hicksville School District chorus concert brought together the developing voices from all nine public schools for a one-night songfest at the high school. Twenty-one participants had achieved All-County Chorus status.
The elementary chorus, comprised of 131 vocalists from the seven grade schools, opened their four-song set with Jack North and Walter Rodby’s “Sol-Fa Calypso” and closed with Irving Berlin’s “I Love a Piano.” Laurie Haddock, Beth Garner, Rachel Pantorno and Mindy Weiss, who were assisted by Frank Barbera, directed them in rotation.
The middle school chorus, directed by Caroline Calleo and Justin Starr and accompanied by Stephen Goldstein on piano, treated the audience to three songs, including Sherri Porterfield and William Blake’s “The Tiger” as their opening number.
The high school Madrigals, directed by Michelle Emeric, sang a lively a cappella set that started with John Lennon and Paul McCartney’s “In My Life” and closed with the familiar beats of Lalo Schifrin’s timeless “Mission Impossible Theme.”
The program concluded with a performance by the high school concert choir, also directed by Emeric, who opened their set with Stephen Foster’s “Beautiful Dreamer” and finished with Brian Tate’s “Gate Gate.”
