Congratulations to Port Washington athletes Robis DeGirmanci and Noni DeGirmenci for their award winning performances in the 37th annual All Round Foods 10K Run for Aspire, on the roads of Plainview and Old Bethpage.
Robis crossed the finish line at the H.B. Mattlin Middle School in Plainview in 35 minutes, 57 seconds, good for ninth place overall and second in the 40-44 age group. Robis’ wife Noni scored in 41 minutes, 59 seconds, to earn first place honors among women in the 40-44 age group.
Race director Karen Schackner put all the pieces together and Glen Wolther of title sponsor All Round Foods played a major role. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor John Venditto and the staff at Oyster Bay Town Parks and Recreation were also instrumental in the run’s success.
Bob Cook and The Runner’s Edge and Aspire 10K official shoe company Mizuno also deserve kudos, as do supporting sponsors Cornerstone Properties, Top Lock Locksmith & Security, and Smith & DeGroat Real Estate.
Continuing the theme of helping young people who have had a rough break in life, Friends of Karen was welcomed as the new charitable beneficiary of the Aspire 10K. Since 1978, this organization has provided vital, practical and comprehensive support, at no cost to families caring for more than 12,700 local children “so they never have to make this journey alone.”
Nancy Mariano and Patricia Conway of Friends of Karen were at the race to lend support.
