A car crash Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. led to the the arrest of a New Cassel woman for drug possession and vehicular assault.
According to detectives, a 45 year old male was driving a 2009 work van southbound on Brush Hollow Road at the intersection of Hillcrest Drive when he collided with a 2010 Toyota Corolla driven by Ethel Mae Edwards, 43, of New Cassel. The man was trapped inside his vehicle and was extricated with the assistance of the Nassau County Police Department Emergency Service Unit and Westbury Fire Department. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.
Police found two substances they believed to be heroin and crack cocaine inside the Edwards’ vehicle. She was placed under arrest at the scene and was transported to a local hospital where she was admitted for treatment of her injuries.
Edwards is being charged with Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Control Substance 7th Degree. She will be arraigned as soon as practical.
