The John Lewis Childs PTA will meet on Thursday, June 12 at 9 a.m. in the school’s auditorium. The JLCS PTA will be hosting its turnover breakfast in the cafeteria. It’s a great opportunity to meet other parents and find out what’s going on at school. Officer Groshans and School Superintendent Opiekun will be the guest speakers. Babysitting will be available.

Volunteers are needed for Theatre Box’s Rob Syverson Fundraiser on June 14. Everyone invited to help support the Theatre Box’s good friend and theatre member who is making an amazing recovery from heart transplant surgery. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy brings their swingin’ big band era sound to the beach at Point Lookout for the Town of Hempstead’s Annual Independence Celebration on Saturday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. Along with the free concert, the evening includes a breathtaking fireworks display and a patriotic tribute to heroic military veterans. The German American Festival will be held on Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13 at Plattduetsche Park, 1132 Hempstead Tpke. in Franklin Square beginning at noon. Admission is $10 (children under 12 free). Fun for the whole family – live music, German food and beer, queen/princess contest, Bavarian dancing, children’s games, magic act performance, etc.
The tradition continues. The 18th Annual Our Lady Of Victory (OLV) School Golf Classic is set to take place on Friday, Sept. 26. The entire community, as well as all OLV School alumni, are invited to participate in the school’s biggest fundraiser and social event. United Methodist Thrift Shop

• Employment Referrals for Seniors. The NC Dept. of Senior Citizen Affairs is a resource to employers seeking qualified workers and to mature job seekers, 55+, who want assistance with employment and résumé preparation. Services are free of charge.
• The Foster Grandparents Program is recruiting senior volunteers to share their time and love with children in Nassau County. Volunteers receive a non-reportable stipend, transportation reimbursement, paid holidays, sick days and vacation days.
• If you are 55+, make your spare time count. Join the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, a national organization, and share your talents and skills at one of the many diversified placements.
