Letter sent to Senator Schumer and requested to be reprinted.
The undersigned represents hundreds of residents of Nassau County and many more in Brooklyn, Queens and New Jersey whose lives, health, peace of mind and property values have been impaired by the new FAA’s new flight patterns through Kennedy, LaGuardia and Newark Airports.
It appears to quietskies.net and other community activist groups that, based on the attitude of the FAA in dealing with us, that they are acting under political cover provided by you. We believe your voting record and consistent support of Senator Cantwell, Senator from Washington and home to Boeing and as well as a primary manufacturer of RNAV equipment were a primary reason for the Passage of HR 658 which sacrificed our well being for the welfare of the airline industry. Most upsetting is that you are acting alone and contrary to the wishes of federal elected officials in the NY metro.
As proof of the above we note that you were the only federal elected official who “represents” the metro area that voted for the HR 658. As you must be aware, the bill gave the FAA full reign to abuse you constituents through, for example, new CATEX rules which defy logic.
To add insult to injury, you have refused to meet with the public to discuss these issues nor do you or a representative have the interest to attend meetings on the aircraft noise and pollution issues.
We therefore respectfully request that you convene a public meeting in this area after Labor Day but before Election Day to answer our concerns and to explain what steps you will take to mitigate the egregious actions of the FAA against our communities. Please advise the undersigned in writing as to the time, date and location of the meeting.
Len Schaier,
President
