Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr., chief executive officer of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA)—a national non-profit organization that unites more than 1,700 member organizations in the mission of providing optimal care and services to individuals with Alzheimer’s disease, as well as family and professional caregivers—today announced that AFA and the Long Island Alzheimer’s Foundation (LIAF) have joined forces.
Under the agreement, LIAF, based in Port Washington, will become a subsidiary of AFA and will continue to provide the same resources, programs and support to the people of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens Counties as it has for a quarter century.
“We are excited about combining the resources of AFA and LIAF,” said Bert E. Brodsky, chairman of AFA’s Board of Trustees. “With AFA’s national network and its track record of successful educational and training initiatives and LIAF’s comprehensive hands-on services, we are poised to better serve individuals not only in Long Island, but, through sharing best practices, in communities nationwide.” LIAF will retain its identity and presence on Long Island, and funds raised on Long Island will continue to support local programs and services. In addition, LIAF’s social adult day center will become a training center for AFA’s network of member organizations, and ultimately, will become a model for other care organizations.
“Together LIAF and AFA have more than three and a half decades of experience in supporting individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related illnesses, and their caregivers,” said Paul Eibeler, chairman of LIAF’s Board of Trustees. “We are looking forward to joining forces and being able to leverage AFA’s extensive resources to strengthen and expand the programs our community has come to expect.”
