Plainview-Old Bethpage was well represented at a recent jaunt through a Long Island preserve.
The Greater Long Island Running Club congratulates 33-year-old Shari Klarfeld of Plainview, who led a large contingent of runners from the area in the Lynne, Gartner, Dunne & Covello Sands Point Sprint 5 Kilometer Run, held on the grounds of Nassau County’s Sands Point Preserve on Saturday morning, Aug. 9.
Klarfeld was the 11th runner overall to cross the finish line overlooking Long Island Sound at the Preserve, with a time of 19 minutes, 56 seconds; scoring as the second woman finisher overall and first woman in the 30 to 34 age group.
Also winning awards at Sands Point were Richard Kleiman of Plainview (24:43), who scored second in the 65 to 69 age group; and Howard Kestenbaum of Plainview (48:32), who earned the second place award in the 80 to 84 age group.
A total of 348 runners completed the run, which was sponsored by the Mineola law firm of Lynne, Gartner, Dunne & Covello, with the Lynbrook Runners Stop serving as the presenting sponsor. John Dunne, a named partner in the law firm, completed the Sprint in a very creditable 29:49.
