Danceworks, NY of Port Washington hosted a memorable event for the Parent Resource Center’s Outreach Program.
Twenty five toddlers were given the opportunity to step into a dance studio and participate in a dance class for the first time. They hopped, skipped, chassed and jumped. They used instruments, scarves, butterfly wands and wings. Their smiles filled the room.
“It is so fulfilling to touch the lives of children through dance” said Trish Gargani, owner of Danceworks, NY. Danceworks, NY is a dance studio in Port that offers classes for children 18 months to 18 years old. Ballet, lyrical, jazz, tap, Hip-Hop, creative movement are taught, along with Tutus & Tiaras classes for two year olds.
The Parent Resource Center’s Outreach Program provides children up to five-years-old from low-income families in and around Port Washington with early-childhood classes and enriching experiences, while offering a network of parental support. The Outreach Program is funded by grants and donations from businesses and organizations.
After their dance, each child was given the opportunity to have their picture professionally taken by Linda Nutter of Linda Nutter Photography. Linda also offered to print each picture as a keepsake. A dance photo wouldn’t be complete without a dance recital costume.
From Our Hearts to Your Toes donated 30 dance costumes. Allison and Amanda Milberg started From Our Hearts to Your Toes three years ago, when they wanted to give back to the dance community that they loved. Their mission is to bring smiles, uplift spirits, and build confidence by collecting, donating, and distributing gently used costumes and shoes to dance programs serving children in challenging environments.
