Registration has begun for the 2014 fall sports activities and programs of the Port Washington Youth Activities (PYA).
Once again, PYA will conduct its Midget Football for boys in fourth and fifth grades in Port Washington and Manhasset. Those grades will play in the junior division. The program also features developmental/intramural flag football for boys in second and third grades.
The junior division (fourth and fifth grades) practices begin at Lions Field on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon, and Sunday, Sept. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Developmental flag football (second and third grades) practices begin on Sunday Sept. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. The registration fee is $195 for junior division football and $175 for developmental football.
The midget football senior division (sixth and seventh grades) is considering whether to field intramural teams or a single travel team. A decision will be made based on interest in the program and the level of participation.
Boys fall lacrosse for first through sixth grades begins Thursday, Sept. 4. Girls fall lacrosse for first through sixth grades begins Monday, Sept. 8. The registration fee is $150 for each group.
Girls Field Hockey for first through sixth grades begins Friday, Sept. 5, and will run from 4:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday afternoons through Oct. 25. The registration fee is $125.
Fall baseball returns with the instructional program (kindergarten through second grade) starting on Saturday, Sept. 6. The registration fee is $125.
Intramural baseball for boys (minor and major leagues, third through seventh grades) will also begin on Sept. 6. The registration fee is $150.
Girls softball, kindergarten through second grade, (Saturdays 10:30 to 11:45 a.m.) and girls softball minor and major Leagues, third through seventh grades, (Saturdays 9 to 10:30 a.m.) begins Saturday, Sept. 6, as well. The fee is $125 for kindergarten through second grade, and $150 for third through seventh grades.
The PYA fall tennis program runs during October on each Thursday afternoon. It takes place indoors at the Port Washington Tennis Academy on Harbor Road, and serves 8 to 10 year olds. The registration fee is $95. Participation is limited to 16 players with two alternates, and selections will be made by lottery.

PYA, established in 1963, is a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit organization whose mission is to promote the sportsmanship and character development in children through participation in its sports programs. PYA is the only Better Business Bureau-Accredited sports-related charitable organization in Port Washington, a spokesman said. With its top-notch facilities located at the end of Glen Lane in Port Washington, PYA has one of the finest youth sports complexes on Long Island, the spokesman said.
