A New Cassel man was arrested Oct. 13 for burglary and trespassing.
According to detectives, on Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. Raleigh Maddox, 44, of New Cassel, entered Eglise Baptist Haiti Enne Church located at 859 Prospect Ave., by prying open the front door. Once inside, the defendant removed audio/visual equipment valued at approximately $12,000.
On Oct. 13 at 1:50 p.m., Maddox allegedly entered a residence on Second Ave. by breaking the front door. A witness notified police, who then found him hiding in the home. Maddox was placed under arrest at the scene and gave police a fictitious name. Officers were later able to identify him through fingerprinting.
Maddox is charged with Burglary 3 Degree, Criminal Trespass 2 Degree, False Personation and Violation of Parole. He was arraigned on Tuesday,Oct. 14 in First District Court, Hempstead.
