An apparent suicide victim was found dead in a wooded area of Riverhead on Tuesday morning, authorities said.

A pedestrian was walking in a wooded area when they found a man’s dead body near the corners of West Main Street and Sweezey Avenue at 11:13 a.m., Riverhead Town Police said.

The victim appeared to have committed suicide by hanging himself, according to investigators, who do not believe the death to be suspicious.

The body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office, where an autopsy will be conducted to confirm the cause of death.

The victim’s identity was not immediately released.
