It is important that every parent and community member know about the school bond vote scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 6:30 a.m. – 10 p.m. in Manhasset High School gym.
The board of education has proposed a $19.9 million capital bond to fund approximately $22.6 million of district-wide projects (the balance will be paid out of capital reserves and a gift from the SCA). The bond would renovate classrooms and labs in the sciences at all three schools, renovate and enlarge classrooms in the arts and music district-wide, ease overcrowding in food services, and renovate memorial field. The bond would also fund infrastructural projects at all three schools, including the repair of a roof, installation of additional exterior lighting at the elementary schools, and replacement of the playground surfaces at Shelter Rock.
The proposal emerged from the work of a committee of 15 residents, who identified the district’s most pressing capital needs. A summary of the proposed projects and facts about the scope and cost of the bond proposal can be found at: http://manhassetschools.schoolwires.net/site/Default.aspx?PageID=3551
