North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Councilwoman Dina De Giorgio visited Sousa Elementary School to honor fifth grade student Iann Fine for his proactive efforts in securing a composter for the school’s garden.
Iann wrote a letter to Sousa Elementary’s Home School Association in October sharing his thoughts about how composting helps the environment, and how it should be used in the school’s garden. As a direct result of Iann’s letter, the town donated a composter, courtesy of the town’s Sustainability Office, and Sousa’s Green Committee and Garden Committee will implement a school-wide composting awareness program at the school all year long.
