Owl Prowl

Have you ever wanted to learn where to find owls in your own backyard? Or meet one face to face? Come out for a live owl presentation, followed by a night hike to hear the calls of native Long Island owls. Bring flashlights and dress for the weather. Register For AARP Driving Course

Register now for the AARP driving course on Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. at Locust Valley Library. Locust Valley residents have open registration. Non-resident registration begins Dec. 19. Non-refundable $20 fee for AARP members, $25 fee for non-members. Check or money order payable to AARP is required at time of registration. Long Island Baroque Ensemble

Christ Church hosts the oldest authentic, professional early music group on the Island, the Long Island Baroque Ensemble, on Dec. 21, at 3 p.m. as it duplicates the sounds of times gone by with a concert of early music performed on replicas of period instruments. Christmas Eve Nativity Pageant

Christ Church Oyster Bay holds a nativity pageant with the children of Church School, and parishioners’ families, with live animals. The story of the birth of Jesus is sung and acted out. Immediately following is the Family Eucharist with older Church School children telling the story of Jesus birth. From 4 to 5 p.m., 61 East Main St., Oyster Bay. Movie at the Library

Children’s movie: How to Train Your Dragon 2 (PG, 102 min.) When Hiccup and Toothless discover an ice cave that is home to hundreds of new wild dragons and the mysterious Dragon Rider, the two friends find themselves at the center of a battle to protect the peace. Blood Drive

Give the gift of life for the holidays. New York Blood Center will be at the Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This blood drive is presented by Oyster Bay-East Norwich Public Library in cooperation with Youth & Family Counseling Agency of Oyster Bay and East Norwich. Last donor will be taken at 3:45 p.m. Two free Mets tickets for the 2015 season will be mailed to each donor. OBHS Quilt Exhibit

The Oyster Bay Historical Society’s holiday exhibition features both traditional and art quilts from their collections now through Dec. 31. The exhibit includes work from local quilters Pat Aitken, Dagmar Karppi, and Jacque Blocklyn. Photos at the Locust Valley Library

For the entire month of December, you can visit the MNA Community Room to see the photographs of Lisle Brathwaite. Brathwaite was born in Antigua and is an engineer living in New York. His gorgeous photographs are of nature and wildlife.  

Plein Art Exhibit

The Teaching Studios of Art of Oyster Bay’s Plein Air Competition of paintings created at Sagamore Hill are on view currently and for sale at the Oyster Bay Historical Society’s Koenig Center. For more information and hours call 516-922-5032.

Food Pantry

The North Shore Assembly of God, 84 Orchard St., Oyster Bay is operating a new food pantry for the community. It is meant to supplement the growing needs of the community. It is open on Tuesdays from noon to 1 p.m. If you are in need of their service, please call Pastor Diane at 516-922-2547 and make an appointment to complete their screening process.
