Congratulations to local runners Delaney Eichorn of Locust Valley, Evan Eisenberg of Bayville, Joanne Gallo of Oyster Bay and Daniel O’Connell of Oyster Bay, each of whom came home with an award from last month’s Blue Ribbon 10 Kilometer and 5 Kilometer Runs for Prostate Cancer at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park.
Thirteen-year-old Eichorn was the first female finisher in the 14-and-under age group in the 5K; Eisnberg took third place honors in the men’s 40-44 age group in the 5K; Gallo scored first among the women in the 65-69 age group in the 5K and O’Connell earned first place honors in the men’s 65-69 age group in the 10K.
The local contingent was part of a record field of 576 finishers—368 in the 5K and 208 in the new 10K. The runs were cohosted by Integrated Medical Foundation and the Greater Long Island Running Club.
Rhonda Samuel of Integrated Medical Foundation, a resident of Woodbury, coordinated the event.
The Greater Long Island Running Club (GLIRC) extends thanks to key sponsors Advanced Urology Centers of New York, Advanced Radiation Centers of New York, Abbvie and Know Error. Additional support for the event was provided by All Round Foods, Winthrop Urology, Coloplast, Dendreon, Runner’s Edge, Apple & Eve and the Bagel Boss Café of East Norwich.
“Thanks as well to Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker, who almost always brightens the starting line of local running events, and to Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tony Macagnone, for being there on Nov. 16 to also support the running community,” said Mike Polansky of the GLIRC, adding, “Special thanks to Grand Marshal Curtis Sliwa of the Guardian Angels, himself a survivor of prostate cancer, for his support and his inspirational speeches at the awards ceremony.”
