Students were saddened today when they learned their classmate had lost her battle with cancer.
Karie Sit, a Manhasset High School senior Class of 2015, passed away yesterday on Tuesday, Feb. 10 of brain tumor suffering from Glioblastoma.
‘She fought a most courageous battle against cancer,” said Dr. Dean Schlanger, principal of Manhasset Secondary School. “Today our entire school community mourned the loss of one of our family members. Karie was a very special young woman who truly lived her life to the fullest. This beautiful young woman touched the lives of many and her love, passion and courage will live with us forever.“
Preparations are being organized by her Manhasset High School classmates for the celebration of her life. All secondary students and Manhasset school staff are encouraged to wear ‘green’ this Friday, Feb. 13. to symbolize a spirit of life and hope.
She made a difference in many lives. Her guidance counselor Kim Cosenza acknowledged “Karie was truly an inspiration to me. Her fight, effervescent personality and overall optimism will never be forgotten. While I am deeply saddened by her loss, my life has been enriched. I will keep smiling… because she always did!”
Donations to begin a scholarship in her name will be collected with a portion going to the American Brain Tumor Association.
