Haven Art Studio is having its first teacher/student painting art exhibition on March 7, at 7 p.m. The students exhibiting range in the age from 9 to adult. Their art work will be joined by works from Haven’s two “master painting teachers”—Barbara Silbet and Mario Tucci—in an exhibit that runs through March.

Silbert has been teaching children ages 7 to14 at Haven Art for more than seven years. When asked what she loves about teaching, she responded that she is always amazed at her students’ thirst for knowledge of all the art mediums and styles. She enjoys giving them a taste of drawing and painting with pencils, charcoal, pastels, watercolors, acrylics and even oils.

She wants them to learn how to mix colors and how it feels to use a brush on a canvas to create textures of trees and flowers, to depict the shadows and highlights of a face, or arrange the shapes of an abstract design. Silbert has been drawing since she was five, won her first art award in high school, was an art director/graphic designer for 30 years and more recently went on to win awards for portraiture and painting.

Tucci teaches adult oil painting every Tuesday to adults. He is an award winning artist, gallery curator, instructor, lecturer and jurist. He has been “Artist in Residence” at the Guggenheim estate in Sands Point, the Portrait Society of America’s Ambassador to NYS, a member of the NYS Grants for the Arts Selection Committee, and has won the John R. Grabach Memorial Award, and the Vincent Waithe Memorial Award.

Haven offers a variety of artistic classes including pottery, hand building, jewelry, sewing, drawing and painting, at all levels. For those who want to paint their own pottery, the studio has a selection of bisque ware for all ages. Other programs include Ladies Night Out and birthday parties for all ages.
