Our Times Coffeehouse, at 38 Old Country Rd. in Garden City presents Gathering Time’s WinterFolk, a program of special songs for the snow season on Friday, Feb. 20 at 8 p.m. The group will perform both original and traditional songs, as well as seldom-covered songs by Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Fairport Convention and others. Open to the public.

The Genealogy Federation of Long Island will host “Irish Famine Records at NARA” on Saturday, Feb. 21, at Bethpage Public Library, 47 Powell Ave. in Bethpage. The Genealogy Federation of Long Island will host “German Special Interest Group (SIG) Research” on Sunday, Feb. 22, at Mid Island JCC-Y, at 45 Manetto Hill Rd. in Plainview. The meeting of the Floral Park League of Mercy Hospital will take place on Monday, Feb. 23, at 1 p.m. at the Floral Park Recreation Center. The guest speaker will be David Slomenhast, L.C.S.W., PHD., director of behavioral studies at Mercy Medical Center who will speak on stress management, a subject beneficial to all ages. Sewanhaka Central High School District board of education public meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 8 p.m. at Sewanhaka High School.
Hempstead Town Board will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Nathan L.H. Bennett Pavilion, 1 Washington St., Hempstead.
Upcoming Events
The 65th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, hosted by the Irish American Society of Nassau, Suffolk and Queens, will be held on Sunday, March 1, in Mineola. Pat O’Hanlon has been named this year’s grand marshal. Mass will be held at the Irish American Society Center at 297 Willis Ave. in Mineola at 10 a.m. The parade will assemble at noon, step off at 1 p.m. from County Seat Dr., proceed to Mineola Blvd., north to Jericho Tpke., then right on Jericho to pass the reviewing stand. The Irish American Society Center will reopen following the parade, at 2 p.m. Join for light refreshments, Irish music and dancing. Admission is $5 for adults; children under 12 are free.
The Nassau North Shore Christian Women’s Club will host a luncheon on March 3 at 12:15 p.m. at the Jolly Fisherman & Steak House, 25 Main St., Roslyn. Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at Sewanhaka High School.
John Lewis Childs School PTA meeting will be held at JLCS on Thursday, March 5, at 9 a.m.
The West End Civic Association will participate in a joint civic association meeting on Thursday, March 5, at 8 p.m. in the recreation/pool building. At that time, the four civic associations will host the village candidates in advance of the village elections later in March 2015. All members are urged to attend, and ample opportunity will be available to talk to our mayor, two trustees, and village justice as to village matters and concerns.
