Three people accused of a Mineola home invasion last year were indicted on multiple felony charges on Thursday, Acting Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas announced. Nassau County police chased the three suspects through Mineola, which ended in a crash on the Long Island Expressway in November.
Malik Taylor, 21, of Medford, was arraigned today before Acting Nassau Supreme Court Justice Angelo Delligatti. His co-defendants, Mark Coleman, 23, of Selden, and Arlene Morel, 22, of Bay Shore, were arraigned before Justice Delligatti on Feb. 25, and Feb. 24, respectively.
The Lincoln Avenue home invasion on Nov. 17 saw Morel, Taylor and Coleman storm into to the victim’s Lincoln Avenue apartment and “proceeded to punch and kick the victim about the face and torso,” Nassau County Police Inspector Kenneth Lack said at the time. Taylor were and Coleman “armed with black handguns.”
The three defendants made off with a safe, containing “several thousands of dollars” and fled the scene in Taylor’s black 2007 Audi, police said. Police spotted the car traveling north on Willis Avenue, toward Jericho Turnpike.
Police said Taylor rammed two patrol cars in Mineola before being chased onto the Long Island Expressway in Jericho. They collided with a livery cab on the northbound side of Route 106/107 intersection with the L.I.E.’s South Service Road.
The three were charged with first-degree robbery, two counts of second-degree robbery and third-degree grand larceny.
“These defendants are accused of breaking into someone’s home, then beating, kicking, and robbing their victim,” Acting DA Singas said. “Everyone in this county has a right to feel safe and protected—especially inside their own home. I thank the Nassau County Police Department for their quick action in pursuing and apprehending these suspects.”
Taylor’s bail was set at $100,000 cash or bond, continued bail for Coleman at $500,000 cash or bond and $250,000 cash or bond, according to the DA’s office. All three are due back in court on April 2.
