Clean Green Main St.

CleanMainSt_041515BEvery day is a new opportunity for your child to take an active role in greening our planet. Here is something extraordinary to do together leading up to Earth Day. Pick up litter, weed, mulch and plant flowers on Main Street on Saturday, April 18. Get your recycling bin; learn about composting and rain barrels. And, be the first residents to see the new planters that will line Main Street this spring!

Volunteers are invited to meet on April 18 at 9 a.m. at the Port Washington LIRR station. Bring a “can-do” attitude, work clothes, a hat and sunscreen. Children must come with adult supervision.

The Town of North Hempstead Sustainability Department will educate residents on the town’s composting program and the rain water collection program. Recycling bins will be available for purchase. Volunteers will receive a free Earth Day T-shirt and Certificates of Community Service, signed by the TONH and Residents for a More Beautiful Port Washington (RFMBPW). Complimentary refreshments will be served by Coffeed Sweet Comfort Bakery & Café. Freitas Landscaping is donating the mulch.

“When litter and trash are left unchecked, they detract from the beauty of our seaside town and dampen the spirit of those who live here,” stated RFMBPW Board Member Betsy Liegey. Come show your community spirit and help clean our Main Street on April 18. If you see someone litter, say something. Let’s keep our town CLEAN.

In the event of inclement weather, please call the RFMBPW office at 516-767-9151.
