Korman continually captures a sense of adventure and intrigue for children with his high interest and action stories. In addition to being the author of various titles in the phenomenally popular The 39 Clues series, Korman has written more than 60 books for kids and young adults, including the best-selling Swindle series, which was released as a television movie by Nickelodeon. His other books include This Can’t Be Happening at Macdonald Hall (published when he was 14); The Toilet Paper Tigers; Radio Fifth Grade; the trilogies Island, Everest, Dive, Kidnapped, and Titanic; and the series On the Run. The Hypnotists, Korman’s latest trilogy published by Scholastic, is an adventure about a kid with the gift of hypnotism—and who’s in danger because of it. He lives in New York with his family.

At the event, Town of North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth will present Korman with a citation to honor his long-standing career as an esteemed resident of our town.

Children’s Book Week will continue from May 4 through May 10. It is an annual celebration of books for young people and the joy of reading. Established in 1919, Children’s Book Week is the longest-running national literacy initiative in the country. Children’s Book Week is administered by Every Child A Reader, a 501(c)(3) literacy organization dedicated to instilling a lifelong love of reading in children. The Children’s Book Council, the national nonprofit trade association for children’s book publishers, is an anchor sponsor.

The Dolphin Bookshop will have a week of activities to celebrate Children’s Book Week. Children may visit the cafe to decorate a star with their favorite book to hang with a spaceship representing the theme “Reading Takes You Places.” They can also vote for the 2015 Children’s Choice Book Awards.

Every day after school at 4 p.m., Community Readers will share their favorite picture books and read to children.

On Sunday, May 9, at 11 a.m., there will be a “Meet Pout Pout Fish” storytime and craft. At 4 p.m., there will be a Mother’s Day event with Starring Jules author Beth Ain, who will read from the Jules series and make special sparkly gifts for moms with children ages 6 to 10.
