John (Dixie) Hannon, Jr. – September 25, 1925 – April 27, 2015
John Hannon Jr., passed away April 27, 2015 in Roslyn, NY.
Born September 25, 1925 in Sumter, S.C., At the age of 16, he enrolled in United States Merchant Marines and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Following the war, John moved to New York joining the New York City Police Department for the next 20 years of his life. After retiring from the NYPD, John, now residing in Huntington, NY, went into business owning two Breeding and Grooming shops, one in Great Neck NY and the other in Manhattan, “Poodles by Sigrid”. Moving to Brookville NY, and summering in Amagansett NY, John joined Coach Reality earning many awards and honors through the years. In 1984, John decided to be a Cattle Rancher and go back south purchasing acres of land in Dade City, Fl, and so the “Dixieland Ranch” was established raising Red Angus Cattle. It took no time before John became the President of the Florida’s Cattleman’s Association. After 15 years as a rancher and a lifetime of work, John decided it was time to play golf again. He and his wife Marie moved to Heritage Pines, a retirement golf community in Hudson, Fl. John returned to Syosset, NY in January 2015 to spend his remaining years with his children and Grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Marie. He is survived by his loving daughter Paula (Mylene) Syosset, NY, his son John Hannon III (Eleanor) Manhasset, NY and his cherished grandchildren John IV and Katie Hannon. A service to celebrate his life is being held at Beney Funeral Home in Syosset, NY on April 30th, 2015 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, John requested that gifts in his name be made to The Wounded Warriors Foundation.
