Cruise Nights Celebrates 10th Anniversary

The summertime Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Cruise Nights had a special date last Tuesday night as the event celebrated its 10th anniversary. Chamber of Commerce President Dottie Simons, Nassau County Legislator Don MacKenzie, Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson and others marked the occasion with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the bandstand.

“Our Cruise Nights event is getting better and better every year and the chamber is proud to sponsor it,” said Simons. “Each year we have added more things, including having certain nights to benefit local charities, school district sponsored food pantries, the Classic Car Showcase and entertainment for the public, such as local bands performing.”

Simons added that a new Facebook page has also been setup for the Cruise Nights event featuring some of the finest vehicles displayed including Duesenbergs, Ducatis, corvettes and mustangs.

MacKenzie, who is a resident of Oyster Bay, said that he comes down with his son to the event whenever he gets an opportunity.

“I think the Cruise Nights is a great thing for Oyster Bay. It is something nice for people who live around here and it brings in people from outside the area. It shows them all that we have to offer,” said MacKenzie.

Past President of the OBEN Chamber of Commerce Michele Browner also made a visit to the 10th anniversary ceremony.

“It is a pleasure to recognize one of the great events in our community,” said Browner. “This event draws people to downtown Oyster Bay and helps bring in traffic to our local businesses and helps the reputation of our community.”

Cruise Nights take place every Tuesday night during the summer season from now until Aug. 25. From 6 to 9 p.m., Audrey Avenue is closed down so the public can view some of finest assortment of cars, trucks and motorcycles from across the island. It is a free event for the public.

Some key upcoming events at Cruise Night  include a “Celebrating our local OBEN Schools Event” on June 23, the Oyster Bay Music Festival on July 7 and “Donations for our local Food Pantries,” on Aug. 11.
