The Port Washington Parking District and Pango Mobile Parking are working to implement a pilot program that will offer pay-by-phone technology that removes the need to deal with parking machines and takes the worry out of receiving a parking ticket. Pango offers users a quick and easy way to pay for parking and is available for iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows and other cell phones. Motorists still will have the ability to pay with quarters.
The town is also currently looking to acquire a parking management software program that would allow commuters to apply for permits and vouchers through the Internet. For security and efficiency reasons, the Port Washington Parking District is no longer accepting cash payments for parking permits and vouchers. Tender of payment is accepted through credit cards, checks, money orders and commuter check card prepaid MasterCard.
The town will soon add more merchant parking spots to help alleviate the need for parking in the downtown area. The new parking lot, located at 1070 Port Washington Blvd., will house 27 spots.
Regular office hours for the Parking District are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., allowing residents to purchase a yearly sticker parking permit and monthly or daily vouchers. If a motorist is not available during those times, he should call 311.
To purchase a permit, the resident must provide a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration and a utility bill dated within the last four months. Applicants must have their vehicle present at time of purchase for an annual permit.
The Port Washington Parking District has also established a Facebook page to enable residents to get live updates on closures, office hours and more.
