Award-winning artist Gregg Kreutz will teach a two-day workshop, “The Art of The Still Life,” in oil paint at the Art Guild on Sept. 19 and 20. This workshop will focus on the drama in still life—how to turn simple props, pots, fruit, flowers, baskets, into compelling dramas of light and shadow. The focus will be on showcasing the significant and modifying or obscuring the less meaningful. The class will explore how to create effects with paint strokes, palette knife swipes and rag swoops, how to make the canvas not only a depiction of observed reality, but also a celebration of abstract paint beauty. A materials list will be provided at registration. Tuition is $350 for Art Guild members and $380 for nonmembers.
Kreutz is the author of the classic artist’s guide, Problem Solving for Oil Painters. After graduating from New York University, he pursued his training as a painter at the Art Students League of New York, winning a merit scholarship. He studied with Frank Mason, Robert Beverly Hale and David Leffel. Kreutz teaches drawing and painting at the Art Students League as well as workshops throughout the U.S. and around the world.
A family day, CreARTive at The Art Guild, will also be held on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. The afternoon will feature art projects for kids age 5 and up and is free of charge. The fall schedule of classes for children and adults will be announced in late August.
