The Port Washington-based, North Shore Kayak Club, recently traveled North to experience some “new” waterways to paddle on. The 13 club members in the photo are at the confluence of the Erie Barge Canal (Mohawk River) and the Hudson River, in Waterford, NY. The Kayak Club is doing a cleanup of Leeds Pond Beach on Sept. 19 at 10 a.m., as part of a national beach cleaning effort. They catalog the trash as it is picked up, and the data is collected nationally. This provides information as to the type of refuse in the nation’s waterways. This year, a local Brownie troop is partnering with the Kayak Club in this effort.
