Friends Academy Tough Match For CSH

The Cold Spring Harbor basketball team took home a Nassau County Police Activity League title at the NCPAL Summer basketball tournament finals against Friends Academy 58-51 on Aug. 20 at the Town of Oyster Bay Athletic Center in Hicksville. A total of 20 teams with more than 200 players had competed in eight games per team during the regular season that culminated in 19 games played over the course of the two-week playoff tournament.

The semi-final round of the playoffs saw Cold Spring Harbor defeat Plainedge 52-45 during the first game on Aug. 19 and Friends Academy beat Oyster Bay 66-56 in the second semi-final.

“Congratulations to the players and coaches of Cold Spring Harbor on their championship victories in the tournament,” said Nassau PAL President Frank DiVittorio. “We also salute their respective opponents Plainedge and Friends Academy for making it to the playoff’s final round. I also want to extend my thanks to all the teams comprised of upstanding young athletes and their dedicated coaches for participating in the tournament over the past several weeks and putting their efforts and dedication into a game that they love.”

 A total of 20 teams have participated in the summer league, which held games on each weekend during the summer months. Teams representing 15 PAL Units (Levittown, North Shore, Mepham, East Rockaway, Island Trees, Carle Place, New Hyde Park, Oyster Bay, Mineola, Hicksville, Locust Valley, MacArthur, Plainedge, Bethpage, Wantagh and Seaford) on the varsity level played in the tournament.

The NCPAL is currently in the process of forming its fall basketball league.
