Marvin “Kiwi” Arevalo’s last art show in Port Washington will take place at Haven Art Studio on Friday, Oct. 23. For the last 10 years, Marvin has touched the town of Port Washington with his artwork and outgoing personality. As a local celebrity, artist, teacher and socialite, he will not be forgotten.
Excited to move on to the next chapter of his life and career outside of New York, but wanting to leave one last piece of his heart, Arevalo has announced “Franken-Kiwi: or The Modern Prometheus.”
Arevalo decorates his Christmas tree with Jack-O-Lanterns and stuffs his Thanksgiving turkey with candy corn. His obsession with all things Halloween is the foundation for his upcoming show. Marvin will showcase traditional Halloween characters crafted with his original style, encompassing oil painting, mixed media and comic book illustration.
He will focus on the traditional story of Frankenstein by Mary Shelly. Although many artists have taken creative liberties with Frankenstein in the past, none were ever seen by the author, who passed away before her story was even illustrated. Nobody can say if these illustrations were true to Shelly’s mind’s eye.
Arevalo wonders what the Frankenstein monster looked like to its creator. He said, “I’d like to throw the traditional concept of Frankenstein out and start from scratch. What did she envision?”
The community is invited to come out and support Arevalo in his last show and wish him a fond farewell. Drinks will be served. Live musical performer to be announced. Haven Art Studio is located at 29 Haven Ave. Call 516-883-8344 for more details.
