The Diane Whipple Foundation is holding its Second Annual Women’s Division I Lacrosse Scrimmage Day on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Manhasset High School. Teams from Columbia, Colgate, Fairfield, Stony Brook, UCONN, UMASS, USC and Villanova will compete in the event. Short games of 40 minutes each with a round-robin format will start at 12:30 p.m. and will run through 7:15 p.m. at the Manhasset High School turf fields.

The Diane Whipple Foundation is a nonprofit organization established by friends, teammates and family members of Diane Whipple, who graduated from Manhasset High School in 1986. Through donations and tournament proceeds, the foundation provides needs-based financial support to young women who wish to elevate their skills in lacrosse through participation in camps and club play and to communities developing women’s lacrosse programs. Financial assistance by the foundation helps provide opportunities for young women to continue their love of sport through lacrosse and to realize important life goals.
Whipple100715AAAPamela McDonough, president of the Diane Whipple Foundation, said, “We are honored to host this awesome event again this year at Diane’s alma mater, Manhasset High School. The school has always been behind all of the events that we do in her name.” Whipple was one of McDonough’s players. Whipple was tragically killed by a dog attack 12 years ago.

Members of The Diane Whipple Foundation, as well as Manhasset girls lacrosse team members, will be at the gate to accept donations for breast cancer awareness and research to combat breast cancer. The foundation will be also be selling T-shirts to acknowledge the “LAX it up and play 2 cure” event.

Whipple100715A“Having Division I womens’ lacrosse here competing is an amazing experience for all to witness. Whether you have aspirations of playing Division I or you just want to see the talent of Division I lacrosse, come out for a part or the whole day. Prepare to see up close and personal, exceptional lacrosse,” said McDonough.
