A window was reported broken at Ruben Smile Designs at 308 Main St. on Friday, Oct. 2. The Port Washington Police District received a call at 8:41 a.m. about the window that was broken. The upstairs tenants in the building at 308 Main St. heard a noise at about 4:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
It was discovered in the morning that someone had thrown a brick through the window of Ruben Smile Designs, according to office manager Diane St. Rose. “We feel very violated and hope this isn’t a trend,” said St. Rose. There was glass all over inside the office, she said. The brick appears to have come from landscaping on the Jackson Avenue side of Ruben Smile Designs.
Residents also noticed on Sunday, Oct. 11, that a bus shelter on Main Street in front of the Landmark building was also shattered. Glass was all of over the sidewalk and in the street.
These incidents are in addition to the report of 10 broken windows at Schreiber High School on Saturday, Sept. 26. The windows broken at Schreiber were on the south side of Schreiber, on the ground floor of the building.
About the Schreiber case, Chief of Police James Salerno said, “The case is under investigation. I cannot comment on suspects at this time. A custodian discovered the windows broken. The damaged windows were on the south side of the high school. It appears they were damaged sometime on Saturday.”
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Mooney said, “I can verify that 10 windows were broken
at Schreiber High School. The police were contacted, but I have no additional details at this time regarding what happened. They are investigating. Sites [of the damage] were secured over the
weekend, new glass was ordered and we are waiting for shipment.”
