The Ecumenical Women’s Ministry will host a Fall Spiritual Book Club on Wednesday evenings, starting Oct. 14 through Nov. 4, at 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at The Community Reformed Church, 90 Plandome Rd., Manhasset.
Join a wonderful group of women for food, fellowship, meaningful conversation and personal reflection on Sue Monk Kidd’s book The Invention of Wings. From the celebrated author of The Secret Life of Bees, this New York Times bestselling novel is a triumph of storytelling about two unforgettable American women, inextricably linked by the horrors of slavery, and both struggling for their own liberation, empowerment and unique voice in the world.
Inspired in part by 19th-century abolitionist and suffragist Sarah Grimké, Kidd paints a moving portrait of Sarah and Hetty, a slave girl, who both know from an early age that there is life beyond the suffocating walls that surround them, if only they have the courage to fly. Their journey inspires all women to reach beyond the limitations imposed in society and do something large in the world.
Our Ecumenical Women’s Ministry is made up of women from various Christian denominations on the North Shore of Long island and Queens. The group is committed to uniting together to offer programs that celebrate and support all women, while inspiring personal enrichment, community building and deeper connection to God. The offerings (at different participating churches) include a fall brunch, a spring dinner, spiritual book clubs, and many service projects throughout the church year.
