Troop 71 Scouts spent the perfect weather over the last weekend in September on their first camping trip at the 440-acre Schiff Scout Reservation in Wading River. After setting up camp, collecting and cutting firewood for evening warmth and cooking, and eating lunch, Scouts sharpened their aim at the BB gun and rifle range, followed by intense tomahawk-throwing target practice. They also enjoyed several short hikes and snagged fish in Deep Pond. The Scouts prepared a delicious skirt steak and grilled onions dinner, topped off with sweet apple spice cake baked in a Dutch oven. After entertaining skits around a roaring campfire, it was lights out until morning for a mountain man breakfast and packing up for home. A great time was had by all.
