A Uniondale man was arraigned on Nov. 9 for the alleged murder of a 19-month old boy from Westbury whom he was babysitting.
Lord Pardo, 26, was arraigned on Nov. 9 in front of Acting Supreme Court Justice Jerald Carter on grand jury indictment charges of second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree manslaughter and one count of second-degree manslaughter.
“This young child’s life had barely begun when it was cut short allegedly by this defendant, who was entrusted with his care,” Acting DA Madeline Singas said. “The murder of a young child is especially despicable and my office will aggressively prosecute this defendant for this heinous crime.”
Pardo was the boyfriend of the victim’s mother, and had cared for the 19-month-old victim several times before. According to Singas, Pardo was babysitting the 19-month old victim (who is not his son), and his infant daughter on Sunday, Oct. 11. Pardo contacted the baby’s mother to say he wasn’t breathing, and the baby was brought to the hospital.
The toddler was found to be severely beaten and suffering from massive abdominal injuries, including a lacerated liver, internal bleeding, and other injuries. The victim was pronounced deceased at approximately 2:57 p.m. that afternoon by medical personnel at North Shore LIJ Syosset Hospital.
After a short investigation, the defendant was arrested by Nassau County Police Department Homicide Detectives on Oct. 12.
Assistant District Attorney Kyle Rose-Louder, chief of Acting DA Singas’ Special Victims Bureau, and Assistant District Attorney Jessica Cepriano of Acting DA Singas’ Major Offense Bureau are prosecuting the case. Pardo is represented by Jeff Groder, Esq.
If convicted on the top charge, Pardo faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison. He was remanded and is due back in court on Dec. 16.
