Model Train Shows Chug Into Towns Nearby

640px-Model_steam_train_06Watching operating model train exhibits is fun for everyone. Most times the displays charge a nominal admission fee as they raise funds for worthy causes.

Here are some recommended upcoming exhibits:

The sixth Nassau County Train Show presented on behalf of County Executive Ed Mangano by Trainville Hobby Depot will be held on the weekend of Nov. 21 to 22 at the Bethpage Senior/Community Center located at 103 Grumman Road West in Bethpage from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. This show raises funds for the Nassau County Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged.

The TMB Model Railroad Club has an amazing permanent layout in their clubhouse located at 120 Schmitt Blvd. in East Farmingdale. They frequently host open houses for the public to enjoy their model railroad artistry on certain weekends from noon to 4 pm. Admission is free, but they do put out donation buckets. The first two weekends this season are Nov. 28 to 29 and again on Dec. 12 to 13.

Last year spectators were treated to a surprise at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration’s Candlelight Evenings Holiday Show. A few of the clubs brought their displays, adding to the festive spirit. This year it will be done once again on Dec. 18, 19, and 20 from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
