Artists can be part of The Art Guild’s third Art From The Heart Fundraiser, to benefit The Art Guild’s Education Fund. The art will be on exhibit from Friday, Dec. 4, through Sunday, Jan. 3.
The Art Guild supplies the 10 x 10 wooden panels free to member artists to create one-of-a-kind artworks in the medium of their choice. Past works have included collage, mosaic, photography, as well as oil, acrylic and watercolors. (Nonmembers are welcome to join The Art Guild, or pay $10 for the panel.) Artists may stop by and pick up a panel during gallery hours, on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m.Susan Herbst, associate executive director of The Art Guild, said anyone can stop in to buy a piece of art. Last year, they had approximately 80 pieces of art for sale.
Each unique piece will be sold for $100 and will make a great gift this holiday season. The proceeds from this fundraiser go toward the Guild’s Education Fund, which awards scholarships to high school students pursuing careers in the arts, as well as other education-related events.
Herbst said, “The Art Guild’s Education Fund is used in a few different ways. Every year we give out three scholarships to Nassau County high school seniors pursuing careers in the visual arts. This includes, but is not limited to, drawing, painting, sculpture, fashion, set design and photography. Though in general, these are college scholarships, we do consider students whose artistic endeavors may take them in directions other than college.”
The Education Fund also helps subsidize classes for children and adults as well as workshops and community outreach efforts such as PortFest, Art in the Park during HarborFest and CreARTive, a free summer art event for children and families at Elderfields.
The opening of the sale, artists’ reception and holiday party will take place on Friday, Dec. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.
Herbst said, “Art makes a unique and memorable gift for that hard-to-buy-for someone or for yourself. With all artworks priced at $100, this is an affordable way to support the arts, give back to your community and shop locally. In the past, there has been something for nearly everyone: still lifes, scenics, abstracts, photographs, collage and mosaic. We’re not sure what the choices will be this year, but we’d love for everyone to come by and check it out. We will be posting art on our Facebook page as a sneak peak. The opening reception will be busy and festive. We look forward to seeing everyone and showing them around historic Elderfields (circa 1675). It’s a great way to acquaint yourself with The Art Guild.”
