The Greater Port Washington Business Improvement District Association (BID) recently awarded Sylvan Learning Center, located at 23 Main St., the first Facade Rehabilitation Grant. Sylvan Learning Center was awarded $5,000 to be used for painting of the building and installing a brand new sunbrella awning with a welded aluminum frame.
“It’s hard to explain the feeling when a town who knew nothing about us was willing to support our business venture,” said Wing Ng, owner of Sylvan Learning. “It means so much that these programs want your business to succeed in the community. Marianne [Dalimonte, executive director of BID] genuinely tried to help me through the facade project by providing guidance and support. Her team continues to help me find programs to apply for additional grants. It’s just amazing that they’re always looking for ways to help.”
Ng continued, “Overall, I have received a very warm reception from the community. On Sunday, a couple came into the store and wished us good luck. They had grown children already and were not in need of our service, but read about us in the Port Washington News and just wanted to wish us luck. I was touched by that gesture of support.”
The Facade Grant Program is for businesses located within the BID district, which is approximately four miles throughout Port Washington. “We feel that this is a step in the right direction to help businesses enhance their façade. This program does offer guidelines and, by not being a matching grant, it allows all qualifying business to apply,” said Dalimonte.
