The Port Washington Water District (PWWD) announced the hiring of their new superintendent, Paul Granger. Granger, a resident of Levittown, will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the district’s water supply system, a position previously held by Italo (Tal) Vacchio, who retired after a 51-year career in public service, of which the past 15 years were spent as the district’s superintendent.
“While it’s sad to see Tal go after such a distinguished career in public service and as a dedicated superintendent to the district, we could not have found a more qualified person than Paul Granger to replace him,” said Port Washington Water District Chairman David Brackett. “Paul’s experience working with complex water systems throughout Long Island and his vast knowledge of the challenges that come along with them present an incredible asset for the district and the residents we serve.”
Granger comes to the PWWD with more than 28 years of expertise in water supply systems. He started his career with H2M Architects and Engineers in 1988 as a staff engineer. After spending eight years with H2M, he was offered the position of superintendent of engineering and business for the Plainview Water District, a position he occupied for 11 years. In 2007, Granger rejoined H2M as department manager of water resources planning and development and has since been promoted to vice president.
“I’m very excited for this opportunity to return to the public sector and serve as the Port Washington Water District’s superintendent,” said Granger. “Each water district on Long Island is presented with a unique set of challenges for ensuring a high-quality water supply. I’m looking forward to using the knowledge I’ve obtained throughout my career to build off of the great work already completed by the district and to continue safeguarding the water supply for its residents.”
Granger is a graduate of Polytechnic University and is a licensed New York State Professional Engineer and a Grade IB Certified water plant operator. In addition to his education and certifications, Granger is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, National Society of Professional Engineers, Long Island Water Conference and the American Water Works Association.
